ParetoLogic Privacy Controls is a proprietary application that offers file deletion and shredding of unwanted files and temporary items that reside on Microsoft Windows systems.

This application includes a Scan and Erase tool to locate and erase recent activity items that are stored automatically on a computer. These include temporarily cached items, pointers, cookies, history items, and log files.

There are two options available in the program :

1. The Scan and Erase is used as an automated way of detecting clutter and unwanted items. It is capable of quickly detecting numerous unwanted items on your computer including system, application, and registry items.

2. The Advanced Shred tool is used to manually select and permanently erase files from your system.

The Scan and Erase tool is designed to deal with clutter and unwanted files left on your system. You can scan your system and supported applications for unwanted items. You can choose to securely delete these items or you can have them shredded using one of the Shred levels. 

The Privacy Controls Advanced Shred tool is reported to erase data so that it is non-retrievable and cannot be restored. There are three Shred levels available including a Quick level (using a single random overwrite pass), Safe (three overwrite passes in accordance with DoD 5220-22M specifications), and a Thorough level (7 overwrite passes including random passes and DoD 5220-22M overwrite passes). The DoD 5220-22M specification is utilized by the U.S. Department of Defense in dealing with classified information.

The Privacy Controls Scan and Erase tool can also be set to use the same overwrite technology so that you can have the program automatically detect numerous unwanted files before you perform the shred. A good all around choice for privacy software.  It has a great interface and is easy to use but missed some that most of the others we tested detected.

WinClear is an Internet history eraser that protects your Internet privacy by cleaning up all tracks of your Internet and computer activity.

Windows and other software programs store history about the different activities that you have performed on your computer and on the Internet. All sites that you visit are stored for later use, including temporary files from these websites. Even deleting files dosn't protect you, as deleted files can easily be recovered with the right software. Children, Loved ones, and law enforcement can easily retrieve discarded files, or stumble upon sensitive information located on your PC.

Unfortunately, we were not impress by Winclear.  Unlike other Internet Eraser software that we have reviewed such as Robin Hood Evidence Eliminator or Paretologic Privacy Controls, the 3rd party application supported is clearly lacking in Winclear though it has a decent list of pre-defined Windows options.  It does not support any other browsers other than Internet Explorer. The only chat application it supports is Yahoo Chat.  There are also no scheduling option that you normally find in other privacy software products.

EvidenceNuker will scan your computer and allow you to see exactly what activity has been stored on your hard drive and then provides you with the ability to securely delete these traces. 

Evidence Nuker gives you a choice of several deletion methods including the one approved by the Department of Defense (DOD 5220.22-M standard) and the one scientifically proven to be sufficient (Guttman).

Four levels of shredding are supported by Evidence Nuker, including: Classic Shredding (1 pass), DOD shredding (3 passes), NSA shredding (7 passes) and Guttman shredding (35 passes). Evidence Nuker does not offer a user defined number of passes as other privacy software does, but 35 passes should be enough security for almost any user.

Evidence Nuker though has a simple interface, is almost too simple in its performance. It has no third–party plug–ins, does not allow you to clean as many different types of files as do the other privacy software products. It mainly focuses on cleaning internet files and the windows system.

At only half the price of Evidence Eliminator, Evidence Nuker is geared more toward erasing Internet History rather than a total solution.  If you just want a package that can clean the Windows Operating System and Internet Explorer, then give Evidence Nuker a try.

Secure delete option will completely destroy deleted files from boot sector using 7 pass destruction scheme as per DOD Std.7 and makes it impossible for any File Recovery tool to recover this data.

CyberScrub Privacy Suite clears Windows streams and memory dumps, RegEdit traces and other areas that retain sensitive information. 

According to the manufacturer, CyberScrub is the only product to use the ISAAC random number generator-a cryptographically secure pseudo random number generator. This means more security options including the ability to address 22 different peer-to-peer applications.

Although this program supports some amazing security features, you cannot review the files before you delete them.

We also find that the interface is a bit confusing.  New users will need some time to get used to the functions available.

When we tested the previous version of the software, it seemed to have some problems. During our testing, for some reasons, the Internet cache was not deleted.  We found various feedback on the Internet by other users reporting the same issue.  This issue seemed to have been resolved in this latest version.  However, when we run it on our Windows XP machine, we get an error message.

We do not recommend this software at this point of time.
